Chair's Welcome

It is a pleasure to welcome you to the UC Davis Department of Statistics website. Statistics is a discipline that is challenging and intriguing in its own right - due largely to the combination of skills and knowledge that are bundled in our discipline -- but it is perhaps unique among academic disciplines in its broad applicability to most scientific endeavors.

As an independent academic unit, Statistics exists on the UC Davis campus since 1979. Since then, the Department has continuously grown in size and strength, and today we can proudly regard our Department as one of the strongest in our discipline.

In various sections of our website, you'll find detailed information about our faculty, staff and students (former and present), about our curriculum, about the courses offered, and about research projects conducted in our Department. Information on special activities and programs within our department can also be found here, the pages devoted to our consulting unit -- the Statistical Laboratory -- and to our Seminar series, being prominent examples. Prospective students will find explicit guidelines and forms to facilitate the application for admission to our graduate programs. Alumni are encouraged to visit our alumni site in order to provide us with updated contact information, so that we can invite you to upcoming events.

We hope that you will have opportunities to visit us in person in the future and to engage us in discussions about statistical and scientific interests.
